Official Holiday Pay Regulations: Egypt (2027)

Under Egyptian Labor Law No. 12 of 2003 (Article 52), employees are entitled to full pay on official public holidays designated by ministerial decrees (up to 13-14 days annually). The Egyptian Cabinet regularly exercises a policy of shifting mid-week national holidays to Thursday to grant employees consecutive long weekends. In 2027, Egypt celebrates Coptic Christmas in January, Sham El-Nessim in May, and major Islamic festivals alongside national revolution days.

Work on an Official Public Holiday (Article 52)
Under Article 52 of Labor Law No. 12 of 2003, an employer may require an employee to work on an official holiday if business necessity dictates. In this case, the employee is entitled to their regular wage PLUS double the wage for that day (Total 300% or 1 regular + 2x additional).
Thursday Shift Policy
By recurring Egyptian Cabinet decree, whenever an official secular national holiday falls mid-week (e.g. Tuesday or Wednesday), the official day off is moved to the following Thursday to support work continuity and long weekends.
